Just imagine living on a planet, made of uncut, precious diamonds. Forget the green color, think sparkly. It would be a dream-come-true. A very, very rich dream-come-true. And such planet exists.
Nikku Madhusudhan and his research team from Yale University have found a planet, called “55 Cancri e”. The surface temperature of the planet is around 3,900 degrees Fahrenheit, it revolves around its host star in 18 hours and twice the size of our Earth. The research team estimated nearly a third of 55 Cancri e could be diamond. The other 2/3 of the planet is graphite. It may sound glamorous and dreamy, but living on the Diamond planet is out of the question. The extreme temperatures, the lack of water and the super long distance make it impossible for a human being to even lay a hand on the Diamond planet.
The research team found out the planet is orbiting a host star, which is 40 light-years away from us in the constellation Cancer. Even if science evolves enough to send people on the Diamond planet, it would still be impossible to maintain any kind of life there.
