Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. was the only general on D-day to land with the first wave of troops

Some people say that a military General should lead his troops from the front lines, not by surveying the battle from the safety of the main camp.

Theodore Roosevelt Jr believed that his life should be just as in risk as his troops. Thus, he stormed the beaches on D-day with the first wave of troops, and was the only General to do so.

Furthermore, Theodore Roosevelt Jr was 56 years old when he stormed the beaches. He is recorded as being the oldest man in the invasion. He is also the only man to serve in the D-day invasion with his son.

His son, Captain Quentin Roosevelt II led his troops at Omaha beach, while Theodore Roosvelt Jr led his troops at Utah beach.

Both men survived the D-day invasion, but both died within 4 years after storming the beaches of Normandy.
